Wonder Woman Edition: Recipes!

Hello all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted here and I wanted to share with you two staple recipes in my life:

Homemade Vinaigrette Dressing:

I tend to eat salads without dressings because the seasoning and juices from the meat is usually enough for me. When it isn’t, I make a homemade dressing. When you know what’s going in your food, you know what’s going in your body

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of olive oil (virgin)

1/3  cup of ( red wine, balsamic, or apple cider- the type of vinegar you use  may affect the taste of the dressing so be aware)

1 tsp of diced of red onions

1 tsp of finely chopped garlic

1/3 tsp of thyme

a pinch of salt

Instructions:

Dice onions into small squares and put 1 tsp into ½ a cup of olive oil.

Chop garlic as finely as possible (or place in a food processor to chop) and also place in olive oil.

(If you don’t want chunks of garlic and onions in your salad or don’t have fresh ones at hand, you can substitute with garlic and onion powder. POWDER! Not garlic and onion salt.)

Add thyme, salt into the mixture.

Add vinegar. As you add it, stir your mixture.

Place in a container or bottle with a cover, then shake vigorously to mix your dressing.

Take a tablespoon or two, add to your dress and enjoy!

This is a recipe that can be played with. I love garlic so it’s a common seasoning I use but feel free to use any spice or seasoning your heart desires (err NO maggi or adobo. Please that’s not real seasoning). If you want a creamier dressing, you can add mustard or plain nonfat greek yogurt (1/4 cup). You can substitute lemon juice (fresh) for the vinegar. For the seafood lovers, you can add a tbsp. of dried crayfish.  The most important thing is to keep it healthy and fresh.

Avocado Hair Conditioner:

I don’t know if anyone of you are aware but I am natural and have been for almost 9 years. My hair has been trial and error for a majority of that period. However, within the last 3 years or so, I’ve found staples that really work for my hair and allow it to flourish it in all it’s glory. Currently, I have been using this homemade deep conditioner and it ( along with prior Apple cider vinegar rinses) and my hair has never been better.

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado

1 tbsp of coconut oil

1 tbsp of olive oil

2 tbsp of unprocessed natural honey (without any honeycomb in it. The pieces don’t blend easily and get tangled in hair)

½ cup of water (or apple cide vinegar)

Peel and cut up the avocado into chunks. Place in blender

Add your oils and honey to avocado. Blend

Slowly add water (or ACV) while blending till mixture is at desired creaminess.

Blended:  1/2 cup of water will give you this consistency. Smells amazing!

Use:

Once blended, you can use the conditioner alone or you can add a store bought conditioner to it as well ( I add Shea Moisture’s Hair Masque, about ½ a cup.) I section my hair and slather each section with conditioner, cover with a shower cap. Because, I rarely use electric heat on my hair, I wrap a towel tightly around my head so I use body heat to deep condition and keep the conditioner in for 1 hour. If you do sit under dryers, about 15-20 min should do.

Rinse, add your leave in and do what you do with your hair.

Result: 1 day after deep conditioning. Put leave in conditioner and bantu knotted then took it out that morning. So not the greatest picture b/c the curls began to fall by the time I made it to this party lol

Everybody is different. As I go through my fitness journey, I’ve noticed the positive effects it has on my hair’s strength, luster, fullness, and length. But my hair is not your hair. So if this doesn’t offer you what you need in your hair, tweak it, twist it, change it completely. My only request is you don’t add any chemical agents that can alter your texture or destroy the bonds in your hair strands. Oh and give it TIME! I’ve learned it takes me about 2-3 times of using a product or mixture for me to notice a visible difference. So. Patience y’all.

Till next time friends!
