There is no better time to choose to be healthy than these covidian times. I am certain we have been following the news and all the preventive measures that has been advised.

  • Maintain social distancing (I like to call that physical distancing, because thanks to technology, we are socially connected😊)
  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds
  • Use a face mask when going out
  • If you had contact with a COVID-19 patient, ensure to quarantine yourself

I am sure we are all practicing this, or maybe at least 85%, right?

Studies have also shown that over 90% of deaths from COVID-19 in Italy and the USA had underlying conditions. Conditions like obesity, hypertension, asthma, diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, are risk factors.

The best defense is a good offense- keep the virus away from you as much as possible. However, no matter how hard we try, some may still find its way into our bodies. That is why we need a healthy immune system.

Your immune system is a complex of cells, tissues and organs in your body that work together to build a solid defense against pathogen.

Studies have shown that diet, environmental and lifestyle factors greatly influence on your immune system. Because immunity steadily declines as we age, it is important to constantly eat healthy and live healthy to boost our immunity.

Some of the healthiest foods you need to build your immunity include:

Beans: this is in the legume family and it includes lentils and peas.  Beans are unique because they are packed full of nutrients. It is a good source of carbohydrates, proteins, and fiber. It is loaded with nutrients like vitamin B, potassium, folate, and magnesium.

Studies have shown that eating beans, lentils, or peas at least twice a week decreases risk of colon cancer by 50%. It also acts as a weight loss and anti-diabetes food.
