Intermittent fasting is a major tool used in weight loss. Some studies have shown it to produce great benefits not just in weight loss but in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

It is simply an eating pattern that helps you to take in fewer calories in a day.

Intermittent fasting is you choosing to eat during a short window and fasting (not eating) for a longer period of time.

Think about the word Breakfast…it is called breakfast because for a longer period of time (that is during your sleep) it is ‘assumed’🙃 you didn’t eat and so the first meal is to break that fast.

How does it work?

When you eat the hormone insulin in the body rises and converts the glucose (broken down from the food you eat) to energy. It then stores the excess in the liver and muscles in the form of glycogen. When the liver (which has limited space) is full, it starts to convert it to fat deposits in the body.

When you fast, insulin decreases and blood glucose falls. The body begins to use the stored up glucose to produce energy which can last for up to 24-36 hours before the body starts to break down fat for energy and that is what we want to achieve yeah?😉

The body actually prefers to use the fresh available calories you’re taking to produce its energy but when it’s not available it draws from its stores.

When you exercise with intermittent fasting you also push the body to use up more calories and more calorie output leads to weight loss.

Some of the benefits of intermittent fasting are ;

👉🏽Weight and body fat loss

👉🏽Lowered blood sugar and insulin levels

👉🏽May improve blood cholesterol profile

👉🏽Lowers risk of type 2 diabetes

👉🏽Boosts body metabolism and helps burn more calories

👉🏽May reduce risk of heart diseases

👉🏽Helps remove waste materials from body cells

Please note that your portion size still comes to play. You cannot fast and still be eating mountain portion during your eating window. It is like fetching water inside a basket☹️.

Tell me, have you tried intermittent fasting before for weight loss?
